Saturday

It’s New Year’s Day but I’ve never really understood the big deal. Time is a construct. We invented it. It’s meaningless. People get so mad at last year, as though it has agency of its own, cursed us, punished us. Those same people pin their hopes on the new year, only to be disappointed and mad again by the end. You make the change, you are the thing you can control. You can make resolutions on any day, no need to wait for this one.

It was below zero and blowing a gale most of the day, snow flying everywhere. I spent it wrestling a cranky toddler, for toddlers care not for calendars, and will be difficult on any old day.

None of that’s to say it was a bad day, it was perfectly fine for a Saturday.
